Why Do You Write?

WHY I WRITE

The  writing challenge question: "Why do you write?"

Writing is my voice. Fear robbed me of voice for many years.  Now, its my turn to be heard.
I write because I love the pictures a writer can paint with words. Writers are truly artists.
When darkness surrounded me and I could find no way out, writing became my light showing me the way.
Writing keeps me sane

Like a sculptor with his clay, I sit at my computer crafting with my words what never existed before. Word by word, line by line I carve out my story. Waves of excitement surge through my body as the story comes to life under my hand. When at last I behold the my completed work, I sit back and gaze with admiration at what I have created.
And I smile at my accomplishment.

I write with the hope that maybe my words can heal the hurts of others who will never know me.

Update
I wrote the above piece 4 years ago in 2012. I thought about updating it but after reading it again, I realized the message is even more relevant today. When I wrote that piece in 2012, I was just starting out on my writing journey unsure if the book would actually find a publisher. The last 4 years have been an exciting adventure with twists and turns beyond my wildest dreams. Today, Reaching for the Light: An Incest Survivor's Story is finished and eagerly awaiting its world wide release.
And what started as one book has now become a series.
I'm currently working on my second book. Look for Searching for the Light Together: Incest Survivors and the Challenge of Relationships coming in the summer of 2017.

  1. A true writer knows how to play his or her imagination and later on put them in words to give life to a blank piece of paper. Love your piece, JC. Beautiful and creative.

  3. Why do I write. I fell into writing by accident. As a family researcher first I one day got bored waiting on information to come in for a book I was researching and formatting for my sister in law's dad. I wrote a regency style book, which is still waiting to be published. I found I had a lot to learn about writing, thank goodness a very good friend set me right. Today I have 2 short stories and 1 childrens book online. Yes it has filled a gap in my life, yes I have enjoyed the journey so far. Good luck JC look forward to seeing you book online.x
